Cellulite is a cosmetic problem that relates to most women after puberty. It mainly occurs in the thigh and buttocks areas. This kind of disorder should not be confused with obesity, which is only hypertrophy and hyperplasia of adipocytes (fat cells). Cellulite is far more a complex issue. It concerns the microcirculatory system, the lymphatic system, the extracellular matrix, and an accumulation of excessive amounts of fat cells (adipose tissue) that  push into the dermis. The small protrusions of fat between collagen fibers and fat cells form characteristic clumps that cause orange peel-like appearance. This characteristic skin appearance is predominant among women. Also, the subcutaneous layer, the one closest to the dermis, is formed by a large spherical adipocytes (spherical fat cells). The layer is controlled by estrogen and fat cells in the thigh area are more resistant to lipolysis.
